 At long last, after a long hard winter, the lambing season is upon us. It’s a time of year that brings so much joy and happiness, and yet can be heartbreaking at the same time. A few weeks ago we had a false start with still born twins, but as they say, “A bad start, [...]  I was speaking to Willie Munro of Caithness Seacoast Sea Tours today. He tells me the first Puffins have made landfall near to where I am, just south of Wick. Exciting stuff. I’ve since found that Puffins have also been sighted on Duncansby Head, just a couple of miles from John O’Groats. Who can fail to [...]  This is a travel journal about a 33 year old guy who packed up and sold everything to go travelling around the world in hope of finding a place called [...]  It’s nearly that time of year. Now the snow has gone, the days getting longer and warmer. Time for a brief pause after the rigours of winter and a time to reflect on last year and what this year may bring. Rather than put into words the hard work lambing season brings, I would rather [...]  Took some time out yesterday and spent the afternoon on the north coast near Strathy Point, Sutherland. Maybe not a brilliant day for picture taking, but managed to get a couple of shots worth keeping. This one looks quite dramatic in mono, and I didn’t need to do much on my computer. I use Nikon [...]  Or at least I hope it is. It seems like a distant memory, but it’s not that far away and time to think about the warm months with long days that lay ahead. The Photographs below, taken just below Pulteney Town, Wick. Beautiful spot, just outside of the harbour.  Hot off the press today, Nikon announces its latest line up of new compact digital cameras. At the head of the list is the slimmest camera yet, the 14.2 mega pix Coolpix S8000 From the press room: “Nikon UK today announces the world’s slimmest wide angle 10x zoom camera, the S8000. One of its new range [...]  Managed to catch these little blighters at the right moment. Hamish and Nipper.  You guessed, even more snow. Not sure if we can get out today, but at least we can tend the animals. The quad is a god send. Without it, life would be very difficult, or certainly more than it is just now. This one machine means so much to us. Imagine checking the fence line, [...]  A little while ago, I thought I would try my old 30 year old 50mm f1.8 nikkor on my Nikon D80. It certainly works well and the sharpness is truly amazing. The photograph below of Sinclair Bay would have been almost impossible, or certainly not be a ‘keeper’ if I had used my 18-200 vr [...] |
