Managed to catch these little blighters at the right moment. Hamish and Nipper.
Nipper is the one on the left, and the younger of the two, at only 6 months old. Head strong with an ‘up front’ personality. Nipper comes from working stock from a farm near Dingwall. We didn’t choose him, he chose us, he bounded over to greet us when we went to take a look at him. Hamish was with us, he felt lonely after Jack passed away. He took to Nipper straight away, giving us that ‘can we take him home with us’ look. Decision was made, we even named him there and then. He reminded me so much of the original Nipper that appeared on the HMV logo and advertising.
Hamish, the one on the right, just over 18 months old, and still very much puppyish, is a different personality. He is more reserved and contemplative, a smart dog that looks before he leaps, he knows how to get what he wants. Hamish came to us from a local farm, again from working stock. When Jack was around, Hamish would take his lead from him, including all of the bad habits and naughtiness, but somehow he knew Jack wasn’t well, and kept an eye on him. I often sent Hamish to go and get Jack when he went walkabout at night, and Hamish always brought him home. Without Jack, Hamish was a lost soul, as indeed we all were, but now we have Nipper, the two are inseparable. In such a short time, Hamish has gone from a wee pup, to pack leader, and a fine one at that.
